My First Time

Description

I picked up some roadkill on my way home from my dads house. First I stopped, ran out and checked out the body, then ran back to my car.

I sat for a few moments and remembered what Ed told me... about how he found a dead goat in the woods and skinned it spur of the moment, for practice. I knew this cat would be great practice, so I grabbed my towel and ran back out to the body.

I used my new Leatherman Wingman tool to do the job, and it did very well!

Despite being in my freezer for a week and not totally thawed when I started, I did a pretty good job. Couldnt get her feet off all the way, but meh. Practice is practice and no feet means easier tanning.

Edit:
This cat was found 5 miles outside of the town I live in. Emphasis on town, its very small and rather forested. Where I found it was near my dads place, out in the forests and farms. The boonies, where dumb hicks dont know how to spay or neuter their pets.
She had been struck by a car, I found her already stiff. She had no collar. Skinning her revealed no microchip. Her pelt was covered in flea dirt. When I dissected her, I found 5 voles in her stomach. A vole is a common rodent out here. I've gone back twice since I first picked her up and I even stopped by the local vet and general store. Not a single lost cat poster.
All of this evidence points to her being feral.
Stray cats in my area know how to take care of themselves.
The only illegal thing I did was pick up roadkill.

Sure, people are saying this is disgusting and everything, and, although I agree, it's good that you took determination to do something like this.

See, I own a cat "foster home", if you will. They all are indoors, but, when we have an exterminator come by for fleas, we have to put all 11 of them outside in a cage and, trying to contain 11 of them in one big cage is not an easy task. Well, one day, we had more cats dropped off and we couldn't take them, so we had to keep them outside. Well, one of them was hit by a car outside my house and I knew it was her because of the coat and the collar. Well, my neighbors hacked off all the limbs and the head and left it at my front door, the rest of the body was gutted and strewn across the yard. We called the cops, and my neighbor confessed and ended up going to jail.

Moral of the story? It most likely wasn't a good idea to take a roadkill cat and skin it. I'm sure you've heard people screaming at you, saying "IT MIGHT HAVE HAD A OWNER!~" well, I'm not trying to say that. What I'm trying to say is, maybe you just shouldn't have posted this picture online. You don't know if there was an owner out there, and they may have seen this picture, knowing it was their pet and something really bad could have happened. That make sense?

Anyway, it's good that you've taken this up as a hobby and it IS really good. I wish you luck on your journey to self-discovery!~ :D
